Paul and Lynne Bolton are the perfect complimentary couple, both constantly evolving and reinventing themselves. Paul opened The Electric Chair Salon on Newport Avenue in 1984 and has been growing and expanding ever since. They married in 1988, and worked as stylists until 1993 when their son, Dakota was born. Together they founded Primitive Kool Outsider Art Gallery in 1998, and when the art market came crashing down in 2010, they came up with the idea to turn some unused facial rooms into a rock music school for kids. When the school grew, they added more space and a state of the art sound board to create a live recording venue. After producing a few successful Burlesque show’s Paul saw the potential of bringing live Theater to OB as well. He then reached out to producer, Jerry Pilato who will now bring a series of plays to the space.
That brings us to the present and to The Ocean Beach Playhouse, a new entity within the Electric Music Studios/Electric Ladyland space, and the new home of Different Stages Ocean Beach. It’s the perfect environment for theater to thrive! This is our fifth and possibly the final evolution for both Paul and Lynne. “We both enjoy theater, although our busy lives have not allowed us to attend often. Now, theater comes to us!”
Paul Bolton is the founder of the Electric Chair Salon, an Ocean Beach icon since 1984. He is clever, and creative as a musician, a prolific environmental designer, and folk artist. The founding member of “Dead Flowers” ( A Rolling Stones Tribute) Paul also produced and performed on the CD “The Paul Bolton Project” and throughout the past decade, Paul has designed and created the exquisite beaded frames, skull adornments, and bottle cap entryways that grace the space at 4944 Newport Avenue. Over the course of Paul’s 28 years of doing business on Newport Avenue, his 3 chair salon has grown into a 15 chair salon, which also houses a rather unique art gallery, Primitive Kool Gallery, a kids rock school, Electric Music Studios, a live recording studio, Electric Ladyland, and now he is responsible for The Ocean Beach Playhouse, the new home of Different Stages.biz, bringing live theatre to Ocean Beach!
Lynne Bolton -Jill of all trades, master of some, has dabbled in the arts her entire life, including painting, event design, hair design, making enormous insect jewelry, garment deconstruction, teaching art, directing a music school, and hosting theatrical events at Electric Ladyland Art and Music Center as alter ego; Luna the Luminous. She tends to be a bit dramatic and can often be seen wearing outlandish outfits and little top hats! If she gets bored, she moves on to something different and more interesting!
